Coast, villas and island days.

Phuket is Thailand's largest island, and where you stay shapes the whole trip. The west coast has the beaches, from busy Patong to the long, calm sweep of Bang Tao. The south is quieter and more local, Phuket Town has the food and history, and the east coast faces the islands of Phang Nga Bay.

Phuket International Airport is in the north of the island.

Know more before you choose

Patong or Kamala: which one fits your trip?

Choose Patong if you want nightlife, restaurants and shopping on your doorstep, or a hillside villa for a group. Choose Kamala if you want a quieter beach and calm evenings, with Patong a short drive away when you want it.

Where to stay in Phuket with children

Kata & Karon, Kamala and Bang Tao are the usual family choices: calmer beaches, space, and restaurants without Patong's late nights. In monsoon season (May–October) check the flags; west-coast waves can be strong.

The best Phuket areas for groups

Large villas cluster on the hills above Patong and around Bang Tao. Patong suits groups who want to go out; Bang Tao suits groups who want space, golf and beach clubs.

Beachfront or hillside villa?

Beachfront means stepping onto the sand, but often less privacy and more noise. Hillside villas usually trade the walk to the beach for views, breeze and privacy, and you'll want a car or driver.

Do you need a car in Phuket?

Outside the centres of Patong, Kata and Karon, usually yes. Taxis add up, and ride-hailing apps work but can be slow in quieter areas. Many villas can arrange a driver.

Where to stay near Phuket's golf courses

Bang Tao and the Laguna area are the classic golf base. Kathu, between Patong and Phuket Town, is also convenient for several courses.

Which Phuket areas are quiet at night?

Rawai & Nai Harn, Cape Yamu and the east coast, and most of Kamala and Bang Tao. Patong and the streets around Bangla Road are the loudest.
